Kings Chess

Kings Chess

Kings Chess is a reimagined take on classic chess, blending traditional gameplay with strategic elements. Players will find themselves immersed in a familiar chessboard setting, yet challenged by unconventional rules. The core objective remains unchanged: in a turn-based format, you must checkmate the enemy king, leaving him with no escape from your attack. However, the matches now unfold on uniquely sized boards, where the freedom of movement for pieces is influenced by environmental obstacles.

As you progress, resources collected directly from the chessboard can be used to construct buildings, enabling the unlimited acquisition of additional chess pieces. Pawns hold special significance, as each move they make generates a random resource, adding an extra layer of strategic importance to these often underestimated units.

At its heart, Kings Chess is an evolution of its predecessor, Chess Etudes, and while the two games share similar conceptual foundations, Kings Chess introduces notable enhancements. The new vertical projection of the chessboard offers a clearer and more intuitive view of the game, significantly simplifying the perception of chess matches. Furthermore, the playful cartoon aesthetic of its predecessor has been replaced with illustrations inspired by the art of the Italian Renaissance. Some elements even draw from Viennese engravings featured in antique editions of Heinrich Heine’s works, adding an exquisite touch of historical artistry.

Kings Chess is designed to appeal to both beginners and seasoned players alike. For those new to chess, the game provides helpful visual cues that highlight possible moves for each piece, making the experience more accessible. Additionally, a two-player mode allows friends or companions to enjoy matches together, offering a perfect blend of challenge and camaraderie.

Screens:

Before each game, you can change the usual arrangement of pieces. The first click selects the piece you want. The second click indicates which piece it should be swapped with. Each piece has its usual chess movement pattern. The strengths of the pieces are indicated by different colors: . To make a move, simply click to select the desired piece from your friendly squad, then click on one of the available positions for that piece on the board. To take a more advantageous position on the chessboard, you can rely on the highlighted movement paths of the opponent's pieces. The colors of the paths correspond to the strength of each piece. From time to time, resources appear in random spots across the chessboard. To collect them, simply choose any chess piece and move it to the resource’s location. These resources are essential for constructing buildings and creating new chess units. On the control panel to the left, there is a button featuring an image of construction. This button allows you to choose a building to receive new friendly pieces of the appropriate rank. Simply click on any available spot on the board to add the selected building to the game. Adding a building costs one move. Each building occupies one square and acts as an obstacle for all chess pieces. Creating any additional piece requires a certain number of moves and resources. The higher the rank of the piece, the more moves will be needed to create it. Players can block the appearance of pieces being created by their opponent by occupying the empty square in front of the corresponding building.
