The primary objective of this project was to test the functionality of the proprietary game engine. The concept for the test game was inspired by the theme of chess, enhanced with the existing game mechanics available at the time. Thus, the idea of chess with elements of turn-based strategy was born. In this iteration, players could accumulate resources during the game to construct buildings directly on the chessboard, using them to bolster their armies with an unlimited number of chess pieces. Unlike the game Kings Chess, the test implementation did not place sufficient emphasis on certain aspects designed to simplify the gameplay experience.
The core essence of the game remained unchanged: in a turn-based mode, players must attack the enemy king in such a way that he cannot escape the assault. However, the matches take place on boards of unconventional sizes. The freedom of movement for pieces is influenced by obstacles in the form of environmental elements. Pawns have added value, as they generate one random resource per turn, which is essential for constructing buildings and recruiting additional units.
Chess Etudes can be interesting for both beginners and chess pros. Those who play chess for the first time will be able to get comfortable on the field, guided by hints in the form of possible trajectories of units movements. It is also possible to play against a companion when choosing a paired game mode.

Screens:
Before each game, you can change the usual arrangement of pieces. The first click selects the piece you want. The second click indicates which piece it should be swapped with.
Each piece has its usual chess movement pattern. The strengths of the pieces are indicated by different colors: ♟♝♞♜♛♚. To make a move, simply click to select the desired piece from your friendly squad, then click on one of the available positions for that piece on the board.
To take a more advantageous position on the chessboard, you can rely on the highlighted movement paths of the opponent's pieces. The colors of the paths correspond to the strength of each piece.
From time to time, resources appear in random spots across the chessboard. To collect them, simply choose any chess piece and move it to the resource’s location. These resources are essential for constructing buildings and creating new chess units.
On the control panel to the left, there is a button featuring an image of construction. This button allows you to choose a building to receive new friendly pieces of the appropriate rank. Simply click on any available spot on the board to add the selected building to the game. Adding a building costs one move. Each building occupies one square and acts as an obstacle for all chess pieces.
Creating any additional piece requires a certain number of moves and resources. The higher the rank of the piece, the more moves will be needed to create it. Players can block the appearance of pieces being created by their opponent by occupying the empty square in front of the corresponding building.
